Vedran Kopljar, born in Slavonski Brod, Croatia, lives and works in Antwerp, where he graduated in 2015 as master of painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Kopljar's artistic method can be described as inventing, building, raising and erecting mental obstacles, which hinder any natural progress. His art overturns ingrained patterns of thought and challenges us to adopt new positions. When Kopljar as an artist tries to get a grip on what he perceives and experiences around him, the element of language plays a recurring role in his oeuvre. He uses language as an instrument to cause contextual shifts through 'displacement' both in terms of content and form.
